The Schwinn 230 is another affordable recumbent exercise bike that offers a lot of features. Although Schwinn recumbent bikes are a lot cheaper than other top of the line recumbent bikes, they can still match other brands when it comes to quality and performance.
The recumbent design of the bike offers comfortable seating that is suitable to those who have back problems during exercise, and the big space for the legs will enable tall users to have an easy time using the bike. Compared to typical bikes which are used while sitting upright, the Schwinn 230 will definitely make exercise less strenuous.
Its affordable value offers twelve pre-programmed work outs and sixteen adjustable resistance levels that can accommodate a wide variety of users who have different resistance needs.
The bike has a 300 pound limit, and we found it to be relatively quiet and stable when used. However, other users who have tried it complain of some unwanted noise and a dim console when the exercise bike is unplugged. Although the console can be easily navigated through its intuitive interface, the screen becomes brighter when the bike is plugged into an outlet.
Schwinn offers a generous ten year warranty for their recumbent exercise bikes but less time for labor, wear items, and other electrical parts. Most of the users of the Schwinn 230 are quite happy with the product and they say that it is suitable for their lifestyles. The comfortable seating it offers have been commended by the majority of the users and the features and resistance levels will surely cater to everyone. Also, assembly for the Schwinn 230 is easy and can be done by anyone because of its easy to follow instructions.
The Schwinn 230 is a compact Recumbent Exercise Bike, featuring 6 preset programs and 16 resistance levels. It’s LCD screen displays time, distance, speed, calories burned, and more. Enjoy more comfortable exercising, with its back support technology. It also has some nice extra features, such as a heart rate monitor inside the hand grips. The 230 comes with a generous 10 year warranty on the frame, and a 1 year warranty on electrical or mechanical faults.
WHAT’S IT LIKE TO ASSEMBLE?
It should only take 60-90 minutes to assemble your exercise bike. The instructions are well written and easy to understand. All the necessary tools and screws you will need are included with the bike.
HOW GOOD IS THE DESIGN?
- futuristic look and styling
- some parts feel a little on the cheap side – for example, the plastic covering the front flywheel looks like it could easily chip or crack.
- easy “step-through” frame
- seat slider is designed so that the bike can accomodate a variety of body shapes and sizes
- wide, comfortable “Bio-Fit” pedals
- attatched transport wheels for quickly moving the bike
- no back light for the dashboard display
HOW WELL DOES IT PERFORM?
- impressive range of resistance levels, and the wide variety of workout presets help to keep your exercise interesting
- the Schwinn 230 is virtually silent as you pedal. So no need to turn the TV volume way up!
- if you get bored easily while exercising, why not take in a book or magazine, using the handy holder bracket on the front of the bike
- it stores your weight, age and time details, saving you the headache of entering them every time you workout
WHAT DID CUSTOMER’S SAY ABOUT IT?
- “putting this bike together is painless”
- “this bike is silent. I couldn’t believe it, coming from the Cycleops trainer, but the only sound I hear is my workout pants swishing”
- “it would be great if the front tube could be folded back when not in use, because then I could hide the machine behind the sofa”
- “all in all, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this bike to others. I use it every day”
- “this bike may not have a lot of bells and whistles, but it is a solidly-built product at a great price”
- “I’ve never used an exercise bike as willingly as I ride this. I might actually get into shape. This is definitely not just another dust-collecting sweater rack for the TV room”
- at the higher resistance levels, one customer complained of the bike “wobbling a little”
- another customer said the heart-rate sensor, which is built-in to the hand grip, was too slow to register an accurate reading
- somebody thought the minimum distance setting between seat and pedals is too long, and riders who are 5 foot 4 inches or under will have trouble pedalling
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
If you try hard enough, you can pick faults with any top-of-the-range exercise bike. Sure enough, this bike has it’s little faults, but they certainly won’t stop you having a rewarding and comfortable workout, time and time again. Bottom line: it’s attractively priced, and recieves a lot of satisfied customer feedback.
